Design Journal - Game Concept: Metro
May 29, 2008My Metro game. This is an idea I have had for a very long time and I even bought www.themetrogame.com to host it once I finished but I started working with liquid interactive again and havent had time to make my own casual games. Basically the game is this: you are the transport management service for a consulting agency that goes around the world improving the metro train system for major cities. Sometimes you are tasked with taking an existing trainline system and making it better and sometimes you even get to start from scratch and make an entire new system. At the start of each level you are presented with a scenario and a list of objectives. To win the level and move onto the next you must meet every objective but some are mandatory and some are desired by the city you are building for. You win the game by finishing all the scenarios and are presented with a sandbox version of the game to make the most efficient metro system as possible.
You have a city map in front of you and you can place stops where you like. After you have placed the stops down based on popular areas you then get to join the lines together which will cost you a lot of money, as the day goes on you receive money from ticket sales and spend money on maintence. You must manage your account by making sure you don’t spend too much or you may have to resort to the loans office, you cannot win the game while you still have a debt. Other features of the game include upgrading stops and train lines as well as viewing traffic reports and population density charts based on the time of day to work out where people are living and where they are ending up, you are able to track any single citizen in real time.
